  • The “Neighbor Effect” (Visual Clutter): The client was eager to transition to solar energy but was horrified by the traditional rack-mounted panels (BAPV) recently installed on neighboring villas. They refused to ruin their home’s architectural elegance with bulky metal frames floating above the roofline.
  • Complex Roof Geometry: The villa features a sophisticated multi-hip roof design. Traditional rectangular solar panels cannot efficiently cover these triangular and trapezoidal roof faces without leaving awkward, ugly gaps and wasting valuable space.
  • High Energy Demand on a Limited Footprint: To cover the heavy electricity usage of a luxury home, the client needed maximum power output, which is difficult when traditional panels can only utilize a portion of the roof.
  • The Invisible Solar Roof: We installed the Lumina Slate series, which completely replaces the traditional roofing materials. As seen from the aerial view, the Sunlit roof maintains a sleek, modern, flush aesthetic that blends perfectly with the high-end neighborhood, offering a stark contrast to the clunky neighboring roofs.
  • Edge-to-Edge Modular Fit: Lumina Slate tiles are designed to handle complex rooflines. Our custom flashing and tailored layout allowed for edge-to-edge coverage across all roof slopes. This maximized the active solar area (140.6 sq.m) while maintaining clean, sharp architectural lines.
  • Maximized Capacity: By turning the entire roof into a generator, we successfully achieved a massive 13kW installed capacity. This system easily generates an estimated 14,000 kWh annually, proving that aesthetic beauty doesn’t require sacrificing power.

Project Log

“When the client saw what solar looked like on their neighbors’ roofs, they almost gave up on green energy entirely. This Xuzhou project is one of our favorite showcases because a single drone shot says it all: you no longer have to choose between a beautiful home and a sustainable one.” — Sunlit Design Team
